KIRTLAND BASEBALL
Head Coach Luke Smrdel
In his first 6 seasons as the head coach of the Hornets, Coach Smrdel's Hornets have posted a 100-61 record overall, and a 52-12 record in conference play.

Over the past six years Coach Smrdel has been selected as the CVC coach of the year four times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), the Lake County coach of the year four times (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018) and the Greater Cleveland Coach of the Year twice (2015, 2018), and both the Northeast Ohio Coach of the Year and the Ohio Division III Coach of the year in 2018.
Luke was selected to coach the Mizuno All-Ohio Games in 2017, named head coach for the Ohio Varsity (Air Force v.s. Marine) Game in 2014, selected as the head coach of the NEOBCA All-Star game (2016) and coached the Lake County All-Star game (2013-2017).

Prior to becoming the Kirtland High School coach, Luke spent six years at Euclid High School as the pitching coach (2007-2012) and two years at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School as an assistant (2005-2006). He was also the head coach of the Euclid Elite CABA (High School World Series) team from (2010-2012), where he compiled a 15-5 record and led the team to a 5th place finish in 2012.

Coach Smrdel played college baseball at Cleveland State University (2002), Lakeland Community College (2004) and Notre Dame College (2005). He played his high school baseball at Villa Angela- St. Joseph High School in Cleveland Ohio and was a All-News Herald, All-Plain Dealer, Team-One All-American in 2000. Luke was the College Prospects of America's top Ohio Prospect for the class of 2001 as well.

Unfortunately, multiple injuries and surgeries led to an early end to his playing days, and Coach Smrdel turned his sights to coaching in 2005.
​
In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Kirtland, Coach Smrdel is also the Executive President of the Northest Ohio Baseball Coaches Association, which includes over 250 schools from Northeast Ohio, a Board Member of the Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaches Association, and the Vice President of the Lake County Baseball Coaches Association. Prior to his presidency with the NEOBCA, Luke was the executive treasurer of the organization for three years.

John Yuha- Coach Yuha joined the staff in 2016. He has over 20 years of coaching experience. John is a P.E. teach at Euclid Central Middle School, and grew up in Pennsylvania.

Tony Hutton- Coach Hutton has been a member of the staff since 2015. he has over 15 years of coaching experience, and played college baseball at Lakeland Community College. Tony graduated from North High School, and is the Chief of the Kirtland Fire Department.

Dave Chervon- Coach Chervon joined the staff in 2013, and has over 30 years of coaching experience. Dave works for the City of Euclid, and played baseball at Euclid High School where he also graduated from.

Alex Fenstermaker (13')- Coach Fenstermaker is in his first year as the head coach of the Junior Varsity Team. Alex was a 2013 graduate of Kirtland High School, and was a mamber of the Hornets first CVC Valley Championship team.

P.J Miller (13')- Coach Miller is also in his first year as a Junior Varsity coach. P.J. graduated from Kirtland in 2013, and was a member of the Hornets first CvC Valley Championship team.
